A Soft Interview Room reflects a trauma-informed approach that assists victims of violent crimes and sexual assault. Unfortunately, law enforcement often lacks the budget for these rooms, typically acquiring them through donations, often from nonprofits like Phyllis’s Garden.
These rooms provide soft lighting, soothing wall colors, non-triggering artwork, and a sand-colored rug that fosters a calming atmosphere. Comfortable swivel chairs enable individuals to adjust as necessary during discussions about sensitive information. Discreet recording devices enhance personal comfort. Additionally, blankets, tissues, toys for children, and refreshments are available to assist individuals in navigating challenging moments. Those who have experienced trauma are more likely to recall details and return for further interviews in an environment that feels safe, comfortable, and supportive.
Program Impact
Traumatized individuals are more likely to cooperate effectively and recall details when the interview environment is safe, comfortable, and welcoming, helping them feel secure.
